The FOOTPRINTS series of age-specific music classes for young children and their parents builds a strong foundation of musical skills, nurtures creativity, and instills a love for music. Classes are ongoing throughout the year -- begin at any time. Supplementary materials are available for all classes, and required in some.
Musical Toddlers ages 18-36 months Taught by Pam Grano
A parent/child class that includes singing, dancing, creative movement, focused listening, melodic and rhythmic echoing, rhythm instrument playing, and exposure to orchestral instruments creating an environment in which the child’s musical aptitude is nurtured, skills are developed, and a strong musical bond is formed between parent and child. Musikgarten’s Family Music for Toddlers forms the core of the curriculum. Designed to be ongoing with five different terms throughout the year. A nine-week class that meets 40 minutes once a week. Musical Seasons ages 3 - 4 1⁄2 Taught by Pam Grano This parent/child class is designed to build independence, attention and self-expression. Focusing on the seasons of the year, the class includes singing, structured dance, creative movement, listening games, melodic and rhythmic echoing and rhythm instrument playing, and musical stories. It also introduces the orchestral family groups and their instruments.
Musikgarten's "Cycle of Seasons" forms the core of the curriculum. Designed to be ongoing with five different terms throughout the year. A nine-week class that meets 45 minutes once a week. Begin at any time.

Musical Adventures Ages 4 - 6 taught by Pam Grano This class builds on and extends the experiences of Musical Seasons. Focusing on the habitats of home, forest, marsh, meadow and seashore, this course includes ensemble development, beginning musical notation, ear training and guided listening, and orchestral instruments. Musikgarten's Music Makers At Home forms the core of the curriculum. Designed to be ongoing with five consecutive terms per year. A 50 minute class with the parent participating in the last ten minutes. Begin at any time.

FIRST STEPS
FIRST STEPS Ages 5-7 Taught by Laurie Dehmlow
A preparatory class for private lessons on any instrument or voice class. Highly recommended before starting traditional lessons. Appropriate before, or in combination with, the Suzuki program. The core curriculum is based on the Kodaly and Dalcroze methods and lays a solid foundation for rhythm reading skills.Children sing, move, draw, and play games and rhythm instruments. Through aural, visual and kinesthetic activities the elements of rhythm are experienced and internalized and then presented as the written symbols of the musical language. Children learn beat, rhythm, note names and values through 16th notes, duple and triple meter. Elements of ear training, melody and melodic movement are internalized and then presented as the written symbols of the musical language. Children learn pentatonic and diatonic scales, solfege, moveable “DO”, the fiveline staff, and melodic movement in steps and skips.
Thecourse covers 25 weeks (three consecutive terms). Class meets for 1 hour once a week.
